about

-All songs written, recorded and performed by Reid Karris
-Except Being in Places written by Dave Strand

The name signifies the effort to blend in with one’s surroundings and I’ve always believed in the importance of adapting to one’s surroundings and drawing influence from them. With that in mind, half of the music was written and all of it was recorded after finding out I was going to be a father. That knowledge really got me thinking about what it is I was doing as an artist and how I was approaching the songs I had been working on. I find that we as humans, in an effort to feel like we have control over our lives when circumstances arise that say otherwise, will go out of our way sometimes to feel the sense of control we think we have lost.

In terms of recording an album I decided to abandon the instrumentation I used on the previous album and focus on just the guitar and then to add musical elements that I had never used before. This lead me to using stuff like coffee cans, a bean bag chair, metal lamp shades and wooden chairs. The idea to use electronic beats and found percussion instead of a more traditional drum kit approach came about two fold. First, I didn’t have access to my drum kit during the time I was able to record and second, the music for the most part was recorded late at night under headphones.

The idea was always to produce an album that was untraditional in terms of sounds but do so in a not so obvious way. This can be heard in the use of things such as an air conditioning unit, a small desktop fountain, thunderstorms and the sound of crickets. The final track, which was written by my friend dave, is one that I played quite regularly for many years and felt that it fit rather nicely with the overall feel of the album. Even though this is a full-length album it opts for the sampled percussion approach, which gives a distinctly different feel then a live drum kit.
