about

-All songs written, recorded and performed by Reid Karris
-Except Sansanah written by John Zorn
-Some songs contain samples of Erik Sowa or Billy Martin playing drums

During 2008 I recorded 3 major albums. This one became the full-length album with full band arrangement much like the songs from the smallest room from the house album. The music is guitar driven and follows several thematic song forms that I had experimented on pervious albums. Unlike the other music I recorded at that time much of the foundations were written on acoustic while at home and almost all of the electric guitar was also recorded at home under headphones while everything else was recorded elsewhere with microphones.

One of the two main focal points came about with the availability of a rhodes electric piano in the practice space shared with a band I am friends with and kept my drums at. Most songs have the rhodes on it at some point ranging from simple chords to main melodies. The second focal point was the use of drums run through effects processors. These were techniques I had started developing for my solo percussion performance project and recordings for that were actual finished before the final mastering and release of this album. Contact mics were used most often but occasionally overhead mics were also run through effects. I tried to follow a pattern of two straight drum tracks along with one sent through processors.

It spent quite a long time mixing and mastering this disc which helps to explain the nearly year long gap between recording and release, which seems to be something I do with most of my albums.
